Hoy nuestra Biblioteca Popular “Ramón José Cárcano” celebra su 114° Aniversario, con un festejo marcado por la austeridad y la virtualidad, teniendo en cuenta la emergencia sanitaria por la que se atraviesa.
Si bien los primeros antecedentes sobre la accesibilidad a los libros se remontan a 1870 con la visita del presidente Domingo Faustino Sarmiento a Fraile Muerto, hoy Bell Ville, y con esfuerzos valiosos de vecinos en años siguientes, se llega al 21 de abril de 1907, cuando a las 14,00 horas quedó inaugurada la institución con el nombre de “Biblioteca Popular Municipal Gratuita”, bajo la presidencia del Sr. Alberto Muñiz. Paralelamente, la Comisión Protectora de Bibliotecas Populares, declara “Popular” a la entidad bellvillense y la incorpora a los beneficios de la Ley N º 419. Como Presidente Honorario fue designado a quien luchara tanto por su vigencia: el Dr. Ponciano Vivanco.
El 18 de septiembre de 1948 por unanimidad de votos de la Asamblea Extraordinaria, recibió el nombre del Gobernador de la Provincia de Córdoba, fallecido dos años antes, pasándose a llamar como se la conoce hasta el presente: “Biblioteca Popular Ramón José Cárcano”.
La Biblioteca local acompañó el crecimiento de esta pujante población del sudeste de Córdoba, con su historia de alegrías y tristezas, logros y objetivos truncos como los de muchos hombres y mujeres de Bell Ville.
En la actualidad cuenta con 2.207 socios. Tanto éstos como el público en general, pueden acceder a los 20.000 libros que posee a la fecha, 11 computadoras, fotocopiadora, biblioteca infantil, sala de trabajos varios, lugar para lectura de diarios, libros y material didáctico diverso, libros parlantes, área para discapacitados visuales, auditorio y material didáctico en DVD, entre otros beneficios, además de la sala de exposiciones “Leonardo Demaría” de novedoso diseño que permite presentar muestras de diversa índole cultural.
Desde la Municipalidad saludamos a la institución, reconociendo en ella los valiosos aportes educativos y culturales que brinda permanentemente a la comunidad.
